La Morte
My week started out with so much promise. It is coming to a close with very sad notes. My relationship is suffering and I'm getting worn out trying to find a place to live. I'm not feeling fulfilled in my job and I'm starting to think that I am something of a hack photographicly.
Then I get a text last night. Our roommate's brother is visiting and apparently when he sat in our porch swing it ripped out of the ceiling. It apparently took out 10ft of the tongue and groove ceiling and part of the trim around the outside of the porch. Who the hell knows what really happened, but the damage is done. Yet another thing for my currently land-lady to go ape-shit about.
On top of that my roommate's kitten has died and it seems my dog is to blame. The kitten was found in the backyard with my dog gaurding the body.
I don't know how to feel about this. I'm sad for Rosie, I know she loved the kitten. I'm sad for the kitten because I liked her too. I'm most worried about my dog though. I'm not sure how upset my roommate is becuase I'm not there and I don't know how, if at all, she will retaliat against my dog(s). I have two but the finger is only being pointed at Durga.
In my opinion Durga was only being a dog. Not all dogs have issues with cats, Galileo doesn't, but Durga does. It's not a dislike of animals with her, it's a hunter's instinct. Durga was never socialized as a puppy around small mammals so she doesn't see them as something she's not supposed chase and stalk. All she's every been around really are large dogs (play mates) and squirels (rodents that pelt her acorns from above). Occasionaly a neighbor's cat would stroll through the side yard on the other side of the fence from her, but she's never really been near them.
At times my roommate and I would supervise some cross species sniffing, but Durga never made a grab for her cats (she had two). We actually thought we were making progress and then this happens. The only other time we thought Durga killed something was when we found an oppossum in the yard, but those things play dead and she wasn't gaurding it. We assumed she did it becuase she's chased squirels before and likes to shake her toys really hard, a move that could snap the neck of a small animal. She can get kind of scary when playing with small dogs, and I always thought she was being agressive so we've always supervised her very closely.
Last week we were keeping a puppy for my roommate's friend and Durga started acting like she does with small dogs, ony this time the puppy wasn't yelping or anything and it turns out Durga just looks scary and sounds scary becuase she's so freakin' excited! Durga and that puppy played non-stop the whole time she was over. Nothing ever happened and they both had a great time.
Something else I can't figure out is how the kitten got in the back yard. We have a shock wire all along the bottom of the fence to keep the dogs from digging out since we live near a very busy street. The kitten could have climbed the fence, but I still find this unlikely. Did someone toss her over? I only wonder this because of something that happened last year.
My roommate had had a squirel for a pet. One day it ran off. She told our neighbors that if a squirel started to climb thier leg, or jumped on thier back, not to freak out, it was her's. She put the squirel's cage out on our porch, for reasons I'm not sure about. Anyhow, one day Nick and I come home and there's a squirel in the cage. Someone had a put a squirel in the cage, locked the door and left it outside on a very cold night. The squirel was dead. We never found out who did it, but her brother was also visiting when that happened too. I'm not saying he did it, it just seems suspicious. I guess it doesn't really matter now. I'm just upset that this has happened, worried about my roommate and worried about my dogs. I guess if Nick likes the house we're going to see tomorrow we'll be moving in a hurry.

Review: Jillian Michaels, Boost Metabolism
Another Jillian Michaels review. I know. How boring am I? Well, I like the girl, what can I say?So, I was in Target (I think I'm addicted) browsing for gifts for folks when I saw that they were having a sale on workout DVDs. I may have mentioned this last blog. While there I picked up two more Michaels DVDs. I tried one of them day before last! I was getting kind of bored with the 30 Day and I had a new one right there, so I thought 'hey, why not?' Even got my roommate to do it with me.
40 f-in' minutes. I knew that when I put it in, but oh my god.
Anyway, this program is sort of completely different. It says on the case that there are several circuts broken down; it sounded like a longer 30 Day pattern. It was not! She said 'OK, here's the first circuit,' or 'On to our next circuit,' but honestly it felt like sets in a long routine more than different routines strung together.
It was still good, don't get me wrong! It'll kick your butt from here to there and back again, but it's good.
The biggest plus for me is that it doesn't require any weights at all! It's just you and your body working. And it's still hard! woot.
It has lead me to the conlusion that I need to have a cardiac stress test done. After about 35 minutes of hard cardio my chest starts to hurt bad on the left side and my heart is hammering away. Not good. Soccer games have become a real b*tch.
So me and my roommate tried out the video, had a good time. She slowed to a stop before the very last set of moves and I was not long after. But we did pretty damn good. Funiest thing was the next day when she came to me and suggested we do level 1 on the 30 day. She never comes to me for it! I'm always prodding her out of bed and talking her into it! lol. I find it funny.
Doing something challenging one day and then not doing anything the next makes you feel kind of like a weeny. :) We don't take kindly to weeniness.
Les yeux, encore....
So I took my glasses back to optical to get the fish-eye effect fixed by lowering my eye center by 2mm. Then I got my new lenses in and took them home only to find that they are still wrong! It's not as bad, but now I'm getting an Escher effect. According to the folks at the optical center, this may be because the axis is bad and that means that I have to go see the Dr again becuase she's the only one who can fix it. * sigh* At least we're closer to having it right! yay. The frames really are cute and I really want to able to wear them and not run into things...
This also means my next weekend has gotten really busy! I have two shoots on Friday, a Dr's appointment and then a shoot on Saturday and then my friend is taking my picture on Sunday. Woo. A busy weekend for photos. I'm going to be swamped in edits that next week, holy cow. I better get it all done too, because the weekend after that I have a shoot Sunday, and then one on the following Tuesday!
Know what else is coming up next week? AVATAR! Is it rediculous that I'm excited about this? Well, I don't care, I am excited. I have a performance with my dance troupe on the 17th and I'm thinking seeing Avatar at a midnight showing right after might just be grand. Nick pointed out that it's like three hours long, but I don't care! We'll see what happens.
In other news I made a new fantastic photo contact. This guy works on NGO/humanitarian projects and helps fund the organizations he works with with his photographic work. To be honest, this is currently my career goal. So I email this guy, telling him I think what he's doing is great and I would love it if he had any advice or every needed any help I was totally willing to do so. It was more eloquent than that, but it's the jist. Fully expected to get the brush off.
He wrote me back! And he was flattered! And he said he could totally see us working together! How cool is that? I don't want to jinx anything so I'll stop talking about it, but just how cool is it to even be told 'hey, yeah, you can do this thing you've always wanted to do, come on over'?
So, I'm happy today. On with my 'reviews' I guess.

Review: Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred

Ah, my first review... on a work out DVD
About it:
Jillian Michaels is a trainer from the ever popular TV show 'Biggest Loser'. She's funny, witty and honest. When she has the viewer do something tough, she says so, but she's encouraging at the same time. She doesn't coddle, she empowers. She has a very clear message of 'you can do it and you had better.'

When she has the viewer do something tough, she says so, but she's encouraging at the same time. She doesn't coddle, she empowers. She has a very clear message of 'you can do it and you had better.'
The program itself is set up in an interesting way and is more interactive than other programs I've done (all be-it, I haven't done that many). There are three seperate workouts, organized by level of difficulty, though at times that may seem subjective. Each workout is setup as three sets of intervals: strength, cardio, and ab work. The moves themselves are pretty simple, but effective and that may be what I like about it the most. All you need to do everything is yourself and some weights. I usually use hand weights, but I've used wrist weights with it too.
I don't know if the results are what they should be since I haven't really been following the program. It's a 20 minute routine you are supposed to do every day. Supposedly you move up in difficulty every ten days. I however became curious about level 2 after a week of doing level 1 every-other day. See? I'm not following the program very well. But even just doing it every-other day, and eating better, I lost 7 pounds. I then regained it, but I wasn't doing the workouts and my eating habits were in the gutter. However, I'm back on the bandwagon, so we'll see how it goes.
The DVD purchase also comes with a 30 day free trial on Jillian's website where you can get more workouts and recipes and the like. It also provides you with an evaluation on your health and determines your metabolic rate and what not, so that your nutrition plan and acitivity plan actually fit you! Not everyone is the same and we all need different things to be our most healthy. It does have one draw back. The optimum weight is set by the CDC or who-ever. I find it to be wrong. For instance at my healthiest I weigh 145lbs. That's me the way I should be. I carry alot of muscle for my frame (I'm 5'2"), but it's natural for me. I should not weigh 110lbs. I would be beyond skinny. Yuk! My brother weighs 198lbs and is quite lean, and he's 5'11", a height that supposedly should only weigh 175lbs. It's interesting (the website), but I don't really use it for anything other than snagging recipes since I'm not drawn to actually use it. Don't know why.
Overall rating: 5 stars out of 5. It's good and it's fun, even my roommate likes doing it. I got her a copy for X-mas. Go by Target, they were selling them for $10.00 this past weekend.

Eyes and updates
Turns out my eye healed well before I got my glasses. When I did get my glasses I found out what it's like to walk around wearing fish-eye lenses! What fun! So, that means I got to take them back to have them fixed. All free to me, thank goodness. Turns out that when they measured for the center of my iris they were off by 2mm. That's alot when it comes to face wear. So, with that corrected I should be able to gaze about with ease, but we'll have to wait a week to find out. Oh well. The frames are super cute though! I'll have to post a pic of me in 'em.
In other news I've been getting my X-mas shopping done. I've got about half my list done. Once I get my pictures in I'll have 3/4 of my list done. I've always thought it was somewhat vain to give people pictures of myself, but every year my elders ask for new pictures and this year I'm at a loss, so that's what they're getting. I tried really hard to get frames they would like too, so that's got to count for something, right?
Other than that I guess the only other real update I have has to do with product reviews. I think I am going to start writing them, for everything! I'm sick of looking for something and no one having any input. So! On with the reviews! I think I will make them seperate posts though, both easily readable and avoidable. :)

Thoughts for the day...
Where to begin?
My eye is doing fine. I gave up trying to keep it covered. It wasn't necessary, all I was trying to do was avoid a headache, and I think the covering accomplished the exact opposite. So I just walk around only being able to clearly see from one eye. Just to let you know, I'm so near sighted that something has to literally four inches from my nose for me to be able to see it.
Thoughts....thoughts....
Today was interesting. We had so folks in from Italy. They would like our business to help thier business do business here in the States and need a States side partner to do it. He was supposedly from Italy, but he sounded British to me. At any rate, it inspired my grandfather to buy Krispy Kreme for the shop guys. I really don't like those donuts. :P
More thinking....
Ah yes, I went to Target yesterday and had a 'girl' moment. I went there to get:
contact solution
dinner
shampoo
milk
I actually got:
dinner
chips
contact solution
milk
a book
a dress
boots
socks
and completely forgot my shampoo.
I went in for $15 worth of stuff and let with $66 worth of stuff. I think everything I got was super cool though. I'll post pictures later. In the meantime, this is the book I bought.
I happen to think that it's kick ass that the author's name is Crouch. Is that dorky of me? I don't care.
So far this book is really good. A little different from my normal pace, but then again, what is my normal pace? My three fave authors right now are Thoreau, Frank McCourt, and Laurell Hamilton. What does that say about me?
Another thought! I like to pick names. I'm not jumping the gun or anything, but names intrigue me. So far names I like:
Silla - no meaning. I had a dream where I had a daughter and that was her name.
Troy - I've always liked it as a boy's name.
Emerson - After another fav author
Eoin - Awesome Irish name
Aideen - Gaelic, flame
Aislin - Gaelic, dream
Bree/Brie - just like it
Tala - Native American, wolf
Talli - Native American, hero
Kaida - Japanese, little dragon
Other names I've picked for things:
Ditto - my doge, he has markings just like his sire
Luna & Lava - two sheperd mixes that I rescued this summer
Durga - my pit/wolf mix, sweetest girl ever
Galileo - my husky, named for his different eyes which made me think of a star gazer
Sigfried, Roy, Piper, Prue, Pheobe, & Page - mice I raised. I know, the names.
Patches - calico cat I had.
Chiene - my brother's pit
I think that's all my thoughts for now...

Arg! Go to work as a pirate day!
Not really, but it feels like it!
Apparently I developed an ulcer on my right eye. Yes, ulcer. Possibly caused by an infection that my optomitrist has no idea how i could have gotten. Let's here it for me and my oddness!
So now I'm doing everything with one eye. I can't wear my contact in my right eye and I have no glasses. I did order them though! Really cute frames from Thalia. Just found them on eyeglasses.com and I could have saved so much money :( Oh well. I was there and just got it done. I should have them in a week. Just in time for my eyes to be fine...

In addition to this zanniness the pharmacy at Target also didn't have any eye patches, other than the child sized adhesive ones. So I took a head band and strapped it over one I and clipped it in places with barrets. I look like a total freak. Actually I think I look like that guy from Dragon Heart who says they should put the red head up as a sacrifice.

Pirate image googled. Thalia glasses from eyeglasses.com

Erm, change of plans
I've decided I like blogging, and one all about my house hunt just isnt going to do it for me. So, I moved it. The house hunt is now my other blog, Hunt pour Chez-Moi. This blog is now just boring/bored old me.
I really want to make my blog look more interesting. I find the options on here limiting and I'm not 100% on where to enter html or css (if it takes css) to make it look better....I'm trying to relearn everything I already learned and forgot about css so my brain is kind of like mush right now anyway....sigh.
Oh well, I guess I'll perooz (so not the right spelling) through the templates on here and decide what I like...
